The Grant Thornton Foundation
Enabling inclusion through collective giving
Established in 2024, the primary aim of the Grant Thornton Foundation is to support social inclusion, helping young people from disadvantaged areas overcome social barriers and support them to advance their education and enter employment.
The Foundation is a tangible demonstration of our values, doing what’s right for society and our industry. It’s well-known that individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds and disadvantaged areas find it more difficult to enter education, rise out of poverty and advance professional careers. By working together through the Foundation, and enabling collective giving across Grant Thornton UK, we can achieve more than we ever could individually. Through our combined efforts, we aim to support charities that help young people overcome social barriers and achieve their potential.
The aims of the Grant Thornton Foundation
The Foundation has four objectives:
Promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded
Promote opportunities for the development, education and support of young people
Advance education
Prevent or relieve poverty

Magic Breakfast
Magic Breakfast aims to ensure that no young person in the UK starts the day too hungry to learn. A donation of just £5 can feed a child for a month, whereas £1,000 can provide 18 children with breakfasts for a whole year. This charity was chosen by our trustees because it aligns with our collective objective of supporting underprivileged young people; it has a national reach and an ability to impact many children in a positive way. Providing a daily school breakfast ensures that every child and young person feels included, equal and set up for success. Magic Breakfast works to be part of the solution to end child morning hunger for good through campaigning, research and advocacy work with politicians and decision-makers.
Baytree Centre
The Baytree Centre is an educational charity based in Brixton, South London. They provide networks and opportunities to empower women and girls to build skills, and a safe space to gain the confidence and wisdom they need to thrive in life, work and family. This charity was selected because it is working to tackle social exclusion and poverty at grass roots levels and there is the opportunity to support the charity’s growth and reach by working together.
How does it work
The Foundation is managed by seven volunteer trustees, who are appointed by a Trustee Advisory Group of five Grant Thornton UK Partners.
The Foundation’s income is used to provide strategic grants that enable charities to grow and scale their impact. The Foundation is only able to accept donations to be used for wholly charitable purposes in alignment with its charitable objectives.
The Trustees are responsible for selecting charities and ultimately making sure the Foundation delivers on its objectives. Charity partners are chosen based on an assessment of the strategic impact a relationship will deliver against our objectives following extensive and detailed due diligence. Due to the high volume of requests, the Foundation does not accept direct applications for funding from charities and will not respond to such correspondence.
