Sunny is a Partner in the Assurance division with more than 18 years of experience in the field of assurance services.
Experience
Sunny qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) with a certificate of merit in auditing. He was actively involved in the audits of various organisations and banks in India.
Sunny joined Grant Thornton in 2004 as a Senior Executive and progressed to become a Senior Manager in 2011, and Partner in 2017. Aside audit assignments, Sunny is also involved in the in-house training of the recently joined executives with regard to the audit software used by Grant Thornton and various other audit standards and methodology adopted by the firm.
Sector experience
Sunny has been in charge of the external audits and other assignments for a diverse clientele in the sectors of large manufacturing, real estate, construction, trading, non-profitable organisations and service industry clients.
Professional qualifications and memberships
Sunny is also registered as a ‘Certified Auditor of Public Interest Entity’ with Botswana Accountancy Oversight Authority (BAOA). He is a Fellow member of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) and Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He is also a BCom graduate from Mulund College of Commerce, India.
Sunny is was involved in the templates setting committee of Grant Thornton International Limited which is responsible for the development of the network’s audit methodology. He is a member of the Grant Thornton International Audit Review (GTAR) team, which conducts quality control reviews of Grant Thornton member firms and its audit practices across the world.
Technological proficiency
Sunny has extensive experience in operating various software to execute audit methodology, such as IDEA (data analysis), LEAP (Grant Thornton patented tool for identification of financial statement risks and linkage to the processes and internal controls established to address those risks) and TeamMate (audit workflow). Furthermore, he is also proficient in using Microsoft Office applications to ensure quality of work.
Community involvement
Sunny participates in Grant Thornton’s CSR initiatives such as recently supporting Government’s Digital Transformation Strategy within the education sector by sponsoring a state-of-the art imported tech panel – a first for public schools in Botswana. Over the years, Grant Thornton has supported various local communities paying attention to the upliftment of education in Botswana.
In his personal capacity, Sunny is a sponsor for the Holy Cross Hospice, a charitable organisation involved in assisting and nursing patients with terminal illness.
Presentations and publications
Sunny has been a member of Grant Thornton’s corporate Toastmasters club, which has facilitated development of communication and leadership skills. He has achieved the Competent Communicator status.
