Grant Thornton Botswana Celebrates Global CSR Day at Therisanyo Primary School

On September 16, 2024, the Grant Thornton Botswana team marked Global CSR Day at Therisanyo Primary School in Gaborone. The event brought together an enthusiastic crowd of teachers, students, and distinguished guests, including the Senior Advisor for Digital Transformation to the President of Botswana, representatives from the Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Basic Education, and members of the school’s PTA.

Grant Thornton Botswana’s Managing Partner, Mr. Kalyanaraman Vijay, emphasized the importance of CSR Day, highlighting its alignment with the firm’s core values and its commitment to fostering quality education. Unique to Grant Thornton Botswana, this commitment is rooted in supporting Botswana’s Vision 2036 goal of transforming the nation into a knowledge-based economy. The 2024 celebration at Therisanyo Primary School was a direct reflection of this mission, aiming to improve access to quality education while also driving environmental sustainability.

1.

Donation of an Interactive LED Flat Panel (Smart Board) – To advance digital learning, Grant Thornton Botswana donated cutting-edge technology, including a Smart Board with an All-in-One PC, camera, and microphone. This contribution is expected to enhance hybrid learning and access to multimedia digital resources. An industrial photocopying machine was also donated to improve the school’s access to educational materials.

2.

Support for the Standard Seven Bootcamp – Grant Thornton Botswana has committed financial support to the school’s annual bootcamp, a focused preparation program for Standard Seven learners. By ensuring that students are well-nourished and supported, the firm is contributing to improved exam performance, as evidenced by last year’s 76% pass rate.

3.

Environmental Sustainability Initiative – In collaboration with its clients, Grant Thornton planted 85 trees and plants at Therisanyo Primary School. This initiative supports the firm’s sustainability goals and encourages environmental awareness among young learners. It forms part of a larger campaign where Grant Thornton plants a tree for every client feedback response received, fostering both ecological responsibility and client engagement.
